National Internship Program Office is an integral part of Ministry. It was initially conceived during FY 2006-07 by the then Government under the Establishment Division but was later on transferred to M/o Youth Affairs in January 2009. After devolution of M/o Youth Affairs (December, 2010), the program was transferred back to Establishment Division. Upon the discontinuation of NIP’s provincial component in FY 2011-12, the program’s activity was restricted to Federal Region only, NIP was placed under the Ministry of IPC in 2014
OBJECTIVES
- To provide one year paid internship/on-the-job training to unemployed educated youth (degree/diploma holders), as a solution to their inexperience
- To enhance their capacity, skills and employability for their better professional career
- To improve public/private sector partnership and performance by providing young, fresh and motivated human resource
- To create strong bond with industry to ensure future job placement of the pass-outs
- To enhance their confidence and ability so that they may apply it in their professional career
- To reduce dissatisfaction, frustration and unemployment of educated youth to make them viable and dynamic human resource for the growing economy
- To cater serious social issues including drug abuse, crime, mental disorder, terrorism and religious extremism through positive community engagement
